Well, the government is trying its best to attract foreign talent, by throwing out taxpayers' money, in the form of scholarships, as though it were dirt. Unfortunately, of the many foreign scholars the government attracts, the ones who do better in school (including some of my friends) have no intention of staying here. Singapore is, to them, merely a stepping stone for entry into top universities in the United States and, to a lesser extent, the United Kingdom.

Hi DaphneMaia,
Asean scholars DO need to maintain a certain standard in order to stay in Singapore, but a large majority of foreign students in NTU,NUS are here on BONDLESS bursaries...YES...you can check with any of your contacts in ntu or nus. Last I heard is that these students are at least expected to work in Singapore after graduation for a couple of years but more often than not, they'll leave singapore should they get the chance. Its rather easy and the school/statutory board can't do much about it.

i think u seriously need to check your facts, weikiat.

ASEAN scholars whose results are anything less than stellar get their scholarships withdrawn. i've seen it happen to too many friends.

don't over-sensationalize. when it becomes overdone, u may be sued for libel.
