Got a reply from Clarissa from 3M regarding the Nexcare Acne Patch “Scam” detailed on my blog earlier.
Hi Wei Kiat,
My name is Clarissa, and I handle the marketing for 3M Nexcare. Had chanced upon your blog and read with keen interest on one of your blog entries about “Watsons & Guardian Scam over the Nexcare 3M Acne Stickers” on 6 Oct 2008.
I thank you for your highlight and wish to clarify on the possible miscommunication that could have resulted in this situation.
Guardian ran this 3M Nexcare Acne Patch $1 pack promotion in May 2008 while Watsons ran this exclusive 3M Nexcare promotion in August 2008 which resulted in both these health & beauty channels running exclusive promotions at different times. However as a chain retailer with many stores islandwide, some Guardian stores could have continued selling the acne patch throughout till full depletion of their stocks which resulted in a spill-over of time period where both Watsons and Guardian were selling the same item. (To recall the packs and take out the exclusive tag would have resulted in additional cost to the consumer, so I think what they opted to do was to continue to let consumers enjoy this special price instead.)
Nevertheless, I hope this clarifies.
Meanwhile, if you would like to have some other Nexcare samples for you to try, leave me your address and i would love to send some to you!
Hear from you soon!
Best regards,
Clarissa Chen

That sounds reasonable enough. It’s a good thing that these things are often just misunderstandings, but there are nefarious companies that are dishonest to their customers. We need to be on guard.
