In the last election, when Gomez admit what he did was an honest mistake…
“To decide whether this was an innocent mistake, Singaporeans must know the
answers…in the interests of transparency and accountability” - Wong Kan Seng“Can you commit a (the honest mistake)…and say, let’s move on because I’ve apologised? You may move on but you’re going to move on out of politics in time.” - PM Lee
Now election is long over. People are busy worrying about whether there is enough rice to eat. When people call for Wong’s resignation, it is time to sing a different tune.
“SINGAPORE should not encourage a culture where officials and ministers resign whenever something goes wrong on their watch, regardless of whether or not they are actually to blame. ” - PM Lee
“We also have to follow due process, giving officers the chance to defend themselves. Otherwise we will demoralise the organisation and discourage officers from taking initiatives or responsibility, for fear of being punished for making mistakes.” - PM Lee
Who even cares about honest mistakes? “Regardless of whether or not they are actually to blame,” when officials and ministers make mistakes, they will still be able to keep their job.
No wonder all parents hope for their kids to grow up and one day become a minister.. while commoners raid NTUC for rice, and find it harder and harder to make ends meet, ministers can make mistakes, and continue to earn “peanut” salary “regardless of whether or not they are actually to blame”.
Damn.. I should have worked harder and join the government. That way I will have steady income for my family and buy as many headphones as I want.
But, to be serious again, the 2 situations are very different and hence some may argue that it is unfair to compare them. That I 100% agree, although a more consistent behavior from our dear ministers with regards to the blame and mistake issues would be very much appreciated.
