The 6 days field camp is a rewarding experience for me. Once again, NS had taught me not to take things around me for granted, and it is a fantastic feeling to be able to appreciate what I am missing once I come back from the field camp. I will never look at basic stuff like lights, running water, and freshly cooked food the same way again.
Other than depriving us of basic things like light, running water and fresh food, we were also given the experience of being cut off from the rest of world for 6 days. Our handphones were not brought out to the field camp, and we could not communicate with the outside world at all. There is absolutely no way to communicate with my loved ones. As a result, I missed them and treasure the time I had with them even more.
One interesting aspect of the Field Camp was powder bathing. I used to shower 1 or 2 times per day when I was at home, but during the field camp, instead of using water, we had to use the SAF body and foot powder. Although it doesn’t work as well as using real water, the amazing powder did indeed make me feel fresh and clean. The person who invented the powder must be a genius. Unfortunately, I still suffered from heat rash as a result of lack of shower, which I painfully bear with for the rest of the field camp.
I was also fortunately enough to learn that my buddy snores extremely loudly. It was interesting to see him rudely awaken by his own snore multiple times. My friends in bashas near ours thought that a wild boar had came in the middle of the night. Of course, fun aside, I had difficulty sleeping throughout the entire field camp because of his snore.
All in all, although the field camp is something that I would certainly not want to try again, it is an enriching and highly inspiring experience as it had taught me many stuff, and I had also learnt to kope with lower morale and high stress level when carrying out activities.
(What am I writing? Can’t be bothered. This had to be submitted today.)
